Digital Pin-Up

The other day I had a go at my first digital pin-up. I worked over an image, editing and changing aspects. I need to just keep doing these, digitally or on good old paper.

Artist : Siolo Thompson

I've been meaning to do a few posts about pieces or artists I come across that awe or inspire me. And Siolo Thompson is certainly one that falls under both categories.

She was a complete random find on tumblr while doing some research for an assignment where I was mingling Occidental and Oriental horoscopes. I'd decided to do this through pin-ups. Oddly enough, when I found her she was in the middle of creating a set of Zodiac pin-ups! And they are beautiful!

Gemini

Capricorn

Cancer

Aquarius

And then there's her alphabet....

Her style is just stunning and very much her own. This summer's gonna be an all out pin-up drawing frenzy for me to improve and work on developing my style further.

Dr. Sketchy's March Session

My first Sketchy's session since June! God I missed it! The music, the models, the hopeful sense that I could possibly win some frilly knickers! And let us not forget the spinning tassels.

This month's session made Easter not so innocent with the fabulous Foxy Pony as an Easter Bunny and a pretty adorable Randall Jones as a sexy birdman, or a more suggestive bird name I'm sure you can come up with yourself. As usual we were treated to some wonderful performances, this month seeing the brilliant Roxy Rhinestone take on Snow White, whistling (and stripping) while she worked, as well as Randall flying high and feeling good (with feathers EVERYWHERE). The music was perfect as always - and I left with the B52s and The Safety Dance stuck in my head - and Scarlett Nymph kept the whole beautiful machine running smoothly.

Zodiac Pin-Ups

At the moment I'm working on a project where the Occidental and Oriental astrological characters are combined. We were given two celebrities' names, dates of births and starsigns under both astrologies - e.g. Oliver Hardy, Capricorn, Dragon (year of the Water Dragon).

So my idea to mix them was through anthropomorphic pin-ups, more specifically 1920s circus sideshow pin-ups - just to be difficult. These are the cleaner roughs for the two finished pieces and I'm still working on the media I'll choose (they must be mixed media). I'll share the final images when they're done in a few weeks.

Where I Work - or Where I Should Be Working

I'm finally on midterm, which has never been more needed!! And at last I had a chance to clean my room and organise my working space (for the bazillienth, and hopefully last for a long while, time).

I can see my desk again! - which my dad very kindly and awesomely made for me. And my walls are no longer bare since I've covered areas with inspirational pictures (eg. art), or just things I like (eg. the Muppets)... It will very much do until I can have a room all on it's own for my art stuff.

No before picture, because...just no.

Chest covered in notebooks and boxes of supplies, along with two crates filled with the same.

Birthday Pin-Up

Today is my friend Keelin's birthday and this was the cover of a card I made for her. I've made friends' cards before, but I just really liked this one.. so I snapped a photo of it before attaching it to the rest of the card, made by my other friend, Emma.

Luckily, she was happy with it, so yay :)

*Both of these gals are smashing illustrators, so follow the linkies :)

Little Red

Character study for Little Red Riding Hood. I've still to colour the hood and cape red, but I'm going to get a photocopy first to be safe.
Just another two characters to go and a narrative page.... sleep has become but a distant memory. On the other hand, I'm finally happy with (and have) my idea for this project, so it's worth the sleep deprivation.
