Sneaky Peek at Girl Parts (wheh)

While rummaging around my old laptop yesterday for part of an old Casket Case script, I found one for Girl Parts that I don't even remember writing! Reading it, I was pretty engrossed and wanted to get working on it immediately. This comic has been hard going for years. It's one that I really want to share but it's also very personal. We all know how those projects go and how difficult they are to, somewhat, perfect before sharing with the world. Or even getting started. 

This new style I've been trying out seems to lend itself really well to my character designs, so I decided to give the whole comic a go in that style. I'm going to allow myself to not be perfect and just get the bloody thing out! Reading Wet Moon also gave me a great boost for getting started on this. I loved every little thing about that first volume. I really wanted to create again.

After finding that script yesterday, I pencilled four pages and got some inked too. I'm working directly into an A5 notebook with this - really trying to stress a relaxed vibe with this for myself. I've added a little sneaky peek down below too. I'm interested how others see this style and layout working. Leave me a comment if you're so inclined :)

Girls Parts is no longer a project I'm currently working on. Maybe someday... but right now it involves a lot I'd rather not have to thing/write/draw about. At least I have these beautiful characters that may pop up again in the future :)

Personal Sketches : Frida Tattoo

It's my birthday soon and I'd love to celebrate with a new tattoo. So, there's been many ideas and some doodling. This is one I'm pretty happy with, a hamsa tied in with Frida Kahlo - two ideas I'd been toying around with for awhile. Plus it's full of other little things and elements - eye of protection, flower, ankh, skull, day of the dead. The colours aren't close to what I'd like but I was just seeing how it worked with colour in general. I have a few other ideas still to choose from too. I should get drawing those too!

Bhu-Tan Fan

This is fast becoming the strangest and most fun ways of learning about animals and other cultures... This lady is related to the Takin, the national animal of Bhutan. Also, Bhutan's flag has a dragon on it! And the king's crown has a skull... Learning is fun.

She'll do... but the next one is going big or going home.

Batgirl

I spent the other day rambling around the national gallery and museums. I honed in on the bats in the Natural History Museum for some reason and took some photos and a few sketches. Then yesterday I found a photo of a woman in this pose and thought I'd give it a bash to see if I could get it. Once I had that done, I remembered the attempt I made a few months ago at a painted/tattooed angel figure that failed. This was attempt two. The bat wings just kind of happened, more based on the stuffed bats from the museum than functional wings. The designs are based on henna tattoos. 

I'm less happy with this the more I look at it, mostly due to the background/sky. I was originally going to use a different medium but changed my mind, so the moon looks a bit...yeah.  I'm still happy with her and the rocks though (after 3hrs of stippling I'd better be!)
